Ray creates concept albums, self-contained works that create a listening journey of imagination, allowing the listener to draw upon their own emotions.

Working as a composer, Ray produces instrumentals that are a genre-crossing and alternative blend of progressive rock, pop, electronic, modern classical and ambient.  Encompassing in their soundscapes, rhythms and melodic meanderings - intelligent, imaginative, thought-provoking,  creating a place where music, meets science, meets art...where the listener is immersed in sound and story.

“All my work is conceptual...I write concept albums. Like everything, in the end, is inextricably linked, I can’t write any other way...wouldn’t want to. There are connections between all of us and everything we do, which affects other living things including the planet.  In this sense, I feel that I write about the big things in life...the ‘larger’ themes. There are like-minded people out there that understand these concepts and want to listen to this type of material.  Hopefully, listeners will appreciate the instrumental music that I create and be taken on their own journey with it”.

Presenter Hannah Fletcher: “[Ray Nelson]producing really good, really chilled out, really nice music.  So this next song to be honest, is the reason why I wanted to do this little chilled out section of the show because it’s so good and I feel like it just needs a perfect space to live in.”    “I love that…so much….it’s so, so good”.

Of Stars

All tracks written, arranged and recorded by Ray Nelson

(Do Not Go Gentle: words Dylan Thomas)

Navigating through such concepts as contemplation, our place in the universe, betrayal, tribulation, life, love, death, risk and eventual success with our failures littering the path behind us.  Alternative, thematic and cinematic in it's scope, Of Stars attempts to span all aspects of humanity, including the need for us to take risks, to risk failure in an attempt to improve ourselves as individuals, but also as a species...we must learn from our mistakes in order to survive.

Probability Wave

All tracks written, arranged and recorded by Ray Nelson.

(Prelude: J.S. Bach)

Probability Wave is an instrumental concept album that portrays human existence, from experiencing the pressures of life, the highs and lows, into calm reflective periods and further still into triumphant returns.  The album concludes with humanity coming to terms with it’s lonely isolation in a cold and uncaring universe and starts to value its humanity, intelligence, scientific discoveries and progress, its movement out of dark ages as unique and as such, of enormous value and worthy of protection at any cost.  After decades of searching for interstellar intelligence, an answer eventually comes our way……will there be anyone there to hear it?
